West Salem’s Avery Meier finishes first in the CVC District Championships at Bush’s Pasture Park on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022 in Salem, Ore.

With the help of a pair of siblings, West Salem swept the Central Valley cross country championships Wednesday at Bush’s Pasture Park. 

The Titans took home the team and individual titles in both girls and boys. 

On the girls side, West Salem freshman Avery Meier won the individual championship with a time of 18:16.4, followed by North Salem freshman Nelida Dalgas (18:24.8) and Sprague senior Sara Abbott. 

As a team, the West Salem girls won the title with 26 points. 

On the boys side, Avery Meier’s older brother, junior Jack Meier, won the individual title with a time of 14:46.3. 

As a team, the Titans had the top seven boys finishers and won the boys title with 15 points.

Individual (top 5): 1. Avery Meier (West Salem) 18:16.4; 2. Nelida Dalgas (North Salem) 18:24.8; 3. Sara Abbott (Sprague) 18:33.8; 4. Gitte Lonigan (West Salem) 19:04.8; 5. Jocelyn Schnurbusch (McNary) 19:10.3.

Team: 1. West Salem 26, South Salem 59, 3. Sprague 64, 4. McNary 84. 

BOYS RESULTS

Individual (top 5): 1. Jack Meier (West Salem) 14:46.3; 2. Brady Bliven (West Salem) 14:57.1; 3. Logan Schwartz (West Salem) 15:24.3; 4. Garrett Fenske (West Salem) 15:51.5; 5. Isaac McDonald (West Salem) 15:57.4.
