West Salem junior lineman Trent Ferguson got a scholarship offer from the University of Oregon after his first year of high school football.

West Salem junior lineman Trent Ferguson has played in just four football games and now has an offer to play for the Oregon Ducks.

Ferguson, 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds, announced the offer in a tweet Sunday.

“After a great talk with @CoachDanLanning and @IAMKLEMM I am blessed to receive my fist D1 offer from the University of Oregon,” Ferguson said in a tweet, tagging Oregon head coach Dan Lanning and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm.

West Salem head coach Shawn Stanley said Ferguson has been impressive, despite not having much experience.

“Awesome young man, great student and an incredibly hard worker. Never played the game until this year,” Stanley said. “You could see right away what he already is as a player and what he will become. You can’t coach 6-7, 300 and when it comes with a great work ethic, great character, a mean streak, and the ability to bend and move, I think they are projecting what he could be.”
