As the postseason arrives for some sports, athletes across the Mid-Valley are reaching their peaks. 

Here are this week’s Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week nominees: 

  • Sidney Friesen, Sprague volleyball
  • Jimmy Lathen, West Salem football
  • Elizabeth Valdez Vazquez, Woodburn soccer
  • Daschel Smith, South Salem football

Sidney Friesen, Sprague volleyball: She had 23 digs, 22 kills and a .192 hitting percentage in the Olympians’ win against McNary.

Elizabeth Valdez Vazquez, Woodburn soccer: As of earlier this week, she had seven goals and two assists for Woodburn.
