The winter sports season is about to heat up, and high school athletes across the Mid-Valley are continuing to have big games and matches. 

This week’s Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week nominees are:

  • Jimmy Lathen, West Salem basketball
  • Cole Steketee, Sprague wrestling
  • KJ Custer, McNary basketball
  • Davian Arevalo, McKay wrestling 

There is information below on each nominee. Vote for the athlete you think is most deserving. The poll closes at noon Thursday.

KJ Custer, McNary basketball: She had 22 points in the Celtics’ win against Franklin.

Jimmy Lathen, West Salem basketball: He averaged 15 points and eight rebounds for the Titans in their Abby’s tournament win.

Cole Steketee, Sprague wrestling: He is 18-1 this year for the Olympians and has won two tournaments.

Davian Arevalo, McKay wrestling: He has been a utility wrestler for the Scots, bouncing between three different weights to wrestle the toughest ranked kids at those weights. He has wrestled three rounds with all of them.
