The winter sports season will heat up in the next few weeks ahead of the district tournaments, state playoffs and state tournaments, and Mid-Valley athletes continue to have stellar performances. 

This week’s Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week nominees are:

  • Sarahi Chavez, McKay wrestling
  • Andrew Craven, Dallas wrestling
  • Brody Roth, McNary boys basketball
  • Gentry Hagedorn, Central swimming

There is information below on each nominee. Vote for the athlete you think is most deserving. The poll closes at noon Thursday.

Andrew Craven, Dallas wrestling: He has a 13-match winning streak going at 138 pounds. 

Sarahi Chavez, McKay.

Sarahi Chavez, McKay wrestling: She placed second in the Kelso Invite, pinning her way to the finals. She is 15-1 this season.

Brody Roth, McNary boys basketball: He had 21 points and eight rebounds in an overtime win at Sprague.

Gentry Hagedorn, Central.

Gentry Hagedorn, Central swimming: Against Corvallis, she placed first in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, as well as helping the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
