With the holiday season upon us, much of the early season action for winter sports are done, and quite a few athletes are having consistently strong performances.
This week’s Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week nominees are:
- Jackson Leach, West Salem basketball
- Spencer Horne, Cascade basketball
- Grace Hinkle, Salem Academy basketball
- Evan Good, Silverton basketball

Grace Hinkle, Salem Academy basketball
In wins against North Douglas and St. Paul, she averaged 14 points per game on 77 percent shooting, as well as six rebounds per game.
Jackson Leach, West Salem basketball
He had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists against Regis, and 17 points and five rebounds against West Linn.
Spencer Horne, Cascade basketball
He had 20 points for the Cougars in a win against Central in the Capitol City Classic.
Evan Good, Silverton basketball
He scored 16 points against Wilsonville in the Capitol City Classic.
