Two people are dead after a crash on Highway 99E on Monday, according to Oregon State Police.

Officials responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 99E near milepost 34 just after 10 p.m. on Monday.

State police said Moises Llamas Fernandez, 27, of Salem, was traveling southbound when the gray 2011 Lexus he was driving left the road and crashed into a tree.

Fernandez and his passenger, Pedro Leon-Cueto, 25, of Gervais, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.

The reason for the crash is unknown. State police said speed and alcohol appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.
