The Kitchen on Court Street announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday the downtown Salem restaurant will close at the end of the month as new restaurant Palominos will take over the space.
The closure comes just six months after the restaurant reopened with a wine shop and renovated seating.
Owner Bernard Malherbe opened the space in 2015 as downtown’s only 24-hour diner. The operation transitioned to takeout service when the pandemic began, then standard breakfast and lunch service when restaurants began to open up in 2021.
Palominos, a new restaurant, will open in the space in early spring, according to a post from the restaurant’s Facebook page.
Palominos’ owner is Will Mary of Ratchet Brewery, which has a Salem location and a Silverton location that recently closed. The restaurant will serve a mix of Ratchet Brewery’s fan-favorite dishes and fine dining dishes.
Malherbe and Mary did not respond for comment.
