Oregon will open the men’s basketball season in three weeks ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press top-25 preseason poll, which was released Monday.
It won’t take Dana Altman’s Ducks long to put that ranking to the test and possibly climb even higher.
Oregon’s season starts Nov. 7 at home against Florida A&M but will follow over the next four weeks with games against two teams ahead of it in the poll — and possibly more.
The Ducks will host No. 3 Houston at Matthew Knight Arena on Nov. 20 and will play No. 8 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles on Dec. 4.
In between could be an expectation-altering weekend in Portland.
The Ducks will be part of the Phil Knight Invitational, an eight-team tournament that starts on Thanksgiving Day at the Moda Center and Portland Coliseum.
Oregon plays UConn in the first round with No. 20 Alabama and Michigan State also in its half of the bracket. In the other half of the bracket are No. 1 North Carolina, No. 16 Villanova, Iowa State and Portland.
No. 17 Arizona is the only other Pac-12 team in the AP preseason rankings, which includes a top five of the Tar Heels, No. 2 Gonzaga, the Cougars, No. 4 Kentucky and No. 5 Kansas.
