It’s not often that Oregon men’s basketball coach Dana Altman says what is truly on his mind, but when he does, it’s always poignant and has a message.

Altman didn’t exactly mince words when he said Michigan owes the Ducks a return game following their trip to Ann Arbor back in 2019. Oregon upset the then No. 5 Wolverines 71-70 in overtime.

Current Michigan head coach Juwan Howard told 247 Sports Zach Shaw that the Wolverines don’t owe Oregon a thing.

Owe is a strong word. I owe my wife a kiss tonight.

Howard indicated that that series was agreed to under former Michigan coach John Beilein and he said he isn’t ruling anything out, but that it couldn’t fit Oregon into Michigan’s schedule this fall.

This isn’t the first time Howard has had a beef with another head coach. Last season Howard got into a physical confrontation with Wisconsin’s Greg Gard in the postgame coaches’ handshake.

The Ducks didn’t have a problem filling out their non-conference schedule for this season, however. Oregon begins the 2022-23 campaign Nov. 7 against Florida A&M. They could play Michigan State, the Wolverines’ biggest rivals, in the PK 85 Invitational.
