Mike Leach honored
Oregon State is wearing a sticker on its helmets today to honor the late Mike Leach.
Leach, who was head coach at Texas Tech, Washington State and Mississippi State, died this week after suffering a heart attack.
Wide receivers out
Oregon State wide receivers Anthony Gould and Tre’Shaun Harrison are out for today’s bowl game.
Gould, a West Salem graduate, made multiple All-American teams as a returner. He had two punt return touchdowns this season.
Beavers to play in NFL stadium
The bowl game is being played at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.
The stadium has a capacity of 65,000, and can expand to 71,000.
The stadium opened in 2020.
Smith familiar with Las Vegas Bowl
This will be the third Las Vegas Bowl game experience for Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith.
Smith was a graduate assistant on the Beavers’ 2003 team that beat New Mexico 55-14 in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Smith was also the quarterbacks coach for Boise State in 2012 when they beat Washington 28-26 in the Las Vegas Bowl.
