The red carpet before the start of the 2019 Crystal Apple Awards at the Elsinore Theatre. The downtown Salem venue has launched a crowdfunding campaign to weather COVID-19 related closures.

A record 89 teachers, administrators and support staff from more than 50 public and private schools and programs in Salem and Keizer have been nominated for the 2023 Crystal Apple Awards.

The nominees will be recognized at an awards gala from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 10, at the Salem Convention Center.

The Crystal Apple Awards will be presented for the first time since 2019, and are hosted by the McLaran Leadership Foundation and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.

“The Salem Chamber is very excited to bring back the Crystal Apple Awards Banquet, recognizing excellence in public and private education across the communities of Salem and Keizer,” chamber CEO Tom Hoffert said in the district’s news release. “This annual event has taken a back seat during the global pandemic, but we are thrilled to have educators, administrators, support staff and the entire community back in person for one tremendous evening in recognition of excellence in education of our students in Salem and Keizer.”
