West Salem’s Jack Meier competes in the CVC District Championships at Bush’s Pasture Park on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022 in Salem, Ore.

Every race Jack Meier ran this season was building up to the most important moments for West Salem cross country — the district and state meets.

Meier came through big time for the Titans, and that’s why the West Salem junior is the Statesman Journal All-Mid-Valley Cross Country Boys Runner of the Year.

Meier ran a 14:46.3 on Oct. 26 at Bush’s Pasture Park to win the Central Valley Conference championship.

Then on Nov. 5, against the top Class 6A runners in the state, Meier ran a 15:20.7 at Lane Community College to place fourth at the OSAA state championships and help his Titans finish third as a boys team.

“It feels great to be in the podium this year, even though I wish I could’ve broken into that top three,” Meier said. “And being third as a team is a dream come true, and this team we have right now really earned this.”
