South Salem's Hatimu Letisi (50) and Zach Wusstig (3) hug after winning the Mayor’s Trophy game against North Salem on Oct. 28 at North Salem High School. The final score of the game was 33-14.

The OSAA state playoffs begin this week for football in all classifications.

Here are five Mid-Valley football teams to keep an eye on this postseason.

1: South Salem (Class 6A)

The Saxons are the No. 9 seed in the 6A state playoffs, and will travel to No. 8 Sherwood at 7 p.m. Friday.

South Salem finished No. 8 in the OSAA rankings, and Sherwood No. 11. However, since Sherwood won the Pacific Conference, they were seeded No. 8 and get the home game.

South Salem went 8-1 in the regular season and finished tied for second in Special District 1, behind Sheldon.

With a win, the Saxons would advance to the state quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 1 West Linn and No. 16 Grant.
