At least 30 cats were killed in a house fire in Silverton on Saturday night, according to the Silverton Fire District.
Officials responded at 5:30 p.m. to a house fire on Lone Oaks Loop. The house was at least 30% involved in heavy fire when crews arrived and took several hours to put out the hot spots, according the fire district.
Due to the extensive damage, which is estimated to be at least $700,000, the home is considered a total loss, the fire district said.
Two people were at the home when the fire started but were able to evacuate. One of the occupants ran a cat rescue organization from the home, according to the fire district.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental and electrical related, the fire district said.
