A 30-year-old Redmond man died Monday in a two-vehicle crash on the Santiam Highway when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a Lebanon Fire Department pumper truck, Oregon State Police said Tuesday.

OSP said in a news release that Kevin Gonzalez was westbound on the highway also known as U.S. Route 20 in a Toyota Yaris around 6:30 p.m. when he collided with the Freightliner truck near Sodaville-Waterloo Drive, east of Lebanon.

Gonzales sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased, police said. The driver of the truck had minor injuries.

Yaris had been reported driving erratically prior to the collision. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

US Route 20 was impacted for about 4 hours.
